Q. How did you set the shot up?
Photo is of my wife's hands pressed against a backlight translucent fabric then transformed in PS to a bas relief with lighting effect filters, vignette and gradient effects.
Q. What equipment did you use? 100mm macro lens on digital SLR (Pentax K20D)
Q. What f-stop and exposure? F3.5 @ 1/125
Q. How many attempts before the success? 18 different poses, this was the 10th exposure.
Q. What did you learn from taking the shot?
It is really helpful to have a patient wife. The setup for the shot was pretty simple. Most of the effects in the shot resulted from manipulation in PS. I was looking for a strong isolated image in the original shot that could be transformed in PS into a representation of hands with a lot of texture.
Q. What did you learn from the image being judged at competition?
I enjoyed seeing all the different interpretations of hands. I really didn't know what the reaction to mine would be because it is more impressionistic than realistic.
