Q. How did you set the shot up?
- Location Key West, Florida at Mallory Square area. Great area to shot the sunset over the ocean. Arrive at pier area in time to get front row overlooking the ocean. There are lots of charter boats of all kinds doing sunset cruises. These cruises sail back and forth in front of the sunset at times 4 or 5 boats are in sunset photo at a time. I started taking photo before sun started to set and with boats in the foreground to check and see these test photo results. Kept an eye on the positions of ships and took as many photos as time would allow.
Q. What equipment did you use?
- Canon 40D with 28-135mm len and UV filter. Photo quality set a raw.
Q. What f-stop and exposure?
- f/13.0, 1/500s, ISO 400
Q. How many attempts before the success?
- Only have one night to take all the night photography in the Key West area. I took a total of 37 sunset photos ranging from ship photos, birds and just the sun setting into the ocean.
Q. What did you learn from taking the shot?
- Great area for this type of photography. Would have liked another night to take one of those charter sail ships for ship side photo of the sunset and sunset colors on the sail of these ships. As always, fun times with the cameras.
Q. What did you learn from the image being judged at competition?
- Thought the photograph was good but I do not have any experience with other photographers giving me feed back. First time I have placed a photo in competition.
