Score:  25/27
Comments from Judges: very compelling, outstanding composition, beautiful lightening, angles great

Q. How did you set the shot up?

It was shot in the late afternoon (4:30ish) in Venice, Italy.  There was no "set up" involved.  We were just exploring (which in Venice means we were lost) and came upon this woman sitting on the stairs.

Q. What equipment did you use?

I was shooting with a Minolta DiMage A2 at the time.

Q. What f-stop and exposure?

I was using an ISO of 64 and the exposure was f/7.1 at 1/200 sec. and was shot with the lens at approx. 100mm.

Q. How many attempts before the success?

The image was originally shot in a horizontal format and I cropped the right side to make it a square.

Q. What did you learn from taking the shot?

.hmmessage P { margin:0px; padding:0px } body.hmmessage { font-size: 10pt; font-family:Verdana }

I was very inspired by Cole Thompson's presentation and have been reviewing a lot of my images to see which ones could work in black & white.  This particular image wasn't very exciting in color but when I converted it to black and white it started to come alive for me.  I increased the contrast and did some pretty heavy dodging and burning.  The woman was not actually sitting in a beam of light as it appears in the photo.  That was created by dodging and burning.  I actually have a comparison of this image in color and black & white on my web site in the Black & White Gallery if anyone is interested in looking.(http://www.GordonMiddletonPhotography.com)

 Q. What did you learn from the image being judged at competition?

No answer given.
